Middle and bottom shelves are perfect for AV components such as Digital Receivers, DVRs, Blu-ray, Gaming Consoles, Speakers, Apple TV, Sonos devices, etc. Tempered Safety Glass explained: To create tempered glass, regular glass is heated and cooled in a specific method. This process strengthens the glass, but certainly does NOT make it unbreakable. Tempered glass is, however, three to four times stronger than an ordinary sheet of glass. Ordinary glass tends to break into jagged, dangerous shards. If tempered glass breaks, it shatters into small, less harmful pieces (usually about ½” across). As a result, tempered glass is used in those environments where human safety is an issue. It is still somewhat fragile and may not be the best choice to be used around active children.
